Community Transport:
What is Community Transport?
Community Transport is a transport infrastructure which responds to the individual needs of each person using it to travel. It slots in between taxi services, which are avaliable on demand, and bus services, which are routinely scheduled.
We define Community Transport as pre-booked, shared and targeted - Our full definition is:
"The Community TransportOptions Model is a community transport infrastructure, which is pre-booked and shared, scheduled and targeted to the individualised needs within a target group, utilising existing transport infrastructure where possible and creating and leveraging transport infrastructure where neccessary to provide an effective, flexible and cost effective delivery of service delivery which is universally applicable"
For further information, please refer to our short presentation on Community Transport.
Prebooked:
The client books in advance, therefor the service is not just an anonymous transport service - we know the client and their needs, and are able to respond to their specific needs.
Because the transport booking is made in advance, we can match the needs of the client to the appropriate means of transport, and can also also allocate the correct amount of resources on the day
Shared:
It is shared transport, therefore:
Costs can be shared and it is cheaper
There is better of use of resources, i.e. fewer vehicles on the road and less impact on the environment
Targeted:
It is targeted, therefore:
The needs of specific types of people can be catered for- currently LANDS TransportOptions is focussed in servicing the needs of people who are frailaged and/or people with disabilities, but may broaden these target markets in future to include other target markets
How are Services Delivered?
The model of LANDS TransportOptions can be set out as being a system of (a) intake and assessment, (b) operations (scheduling) and (c) service delivery by means of its own fleet services or external fleet services (i.e. buses and taxi's) contracted to provide the actual transport, which can be diagrammatically set out as follows:
LANDS is able to book clients into taxi's,buses or its own fleet. LANDS will the booking and prepare the run sheet, which is the delivered directly to the taxi by uploading it into the taxi dispatch system. Own fleet transport is used for mostly higher needs clients (may need extra assistance) and also in peak hours, when the avaiability of disability taxis is not at a premium.
